Explained: Game Ratings (Part 1)

Part one of my effort to explain the different game ratings seen on game box covers.

PEGI
The Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) age rating system was established to help European parents make informed decisions on buying computer games. It was launched in spring 2003 and replaced a number of national age rating systems with a single system now used throughout most of Europe, in 30 countries (Austria Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Norway, Slovenia, Belgium, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Sweden, Cyprus, France, Israel, Malta, Romania, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Slovak Republic and the United Kingdom)

The system is supported by the major console manufacturers, including Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, as well as by publishers and developers of interactive games throughout Europe. The age rating system was developed by the Interactive Software Federation of Europe (ISFE).

Quick Tip: How to Check Whether a PSN ID Is Available

To play access any of the features of the PlayStation Store and of your PS3 games, you need a PSN ID. To quickly check whether a PSN ID is available, open the following URL in your web browser:

http://us.playstation.com/publictrophy/index.htm?onlinename=[[ PSN ID ]]

Note: Replace [[ PSN ID ]] with the PSN ID you want to check for availability.

If the ID is available, a "No User Profile" message will appear onscreen.

Buy PS3 from Flipkart.com.

Understanding PS3 Regions

Recently I had an issue with a game I bought which worked fine on my PS3 but the DLCs from my PlayStation Store were not compatible with my game disc. Further the code to access online features of the game were not working. The reason? The region of my game disc did not match the region of my PlayStation Store or my PlayStation ID. I have to sell off my game disc and obtain a game disc that was of the same region as my PlayStation Store.

To warn others in advance of making such a mistake, I have complied a guide to explain the issues.
