Microsoft has made available a program to analyze and decrease the time it takes to boot to
Windows XP. The program is called
BootVis.
To optimize and decrease your Windows XP boot time:
Download and extract BootVis.exe from the zip file.
Run BootVis.exe and got to Trace > Next Boot + Driver Delays.
This will reboot your computer and provide a benchmark
After the reboot, BootVis will take a minute or two to show graphs of your system startup.
Note how much time it takes for your system to load (click on the red vertical line).
Next go to Trace > Optimize System. This will again reboot your computer and optimize the boot time.
Finally, go to Trace > Next Boot + Driver Delays and note how much the boot time has decreased on the next reboot.
You should see a 8 - 10 second decrease in boot time!
Download
BootVis from
