Pokémon Go Tips

Nearby Pokémon

The Nearby Pokémon tab, found on the bottom right of the map screen, shows which Pokémon are near you. Most of these Pokémon should have a footprints under them, with 1 meaning close by and 3 meaning farther away. A Pokémon shown that has no footprints means that a Pokémon is right next to you.

A patch of moving grass on the map indicates a Pokémon nearby but doesn't always mean a Pokémon will immediately appear if you're close enough. Though, moving around the area long enough should eventually make the Pokémon appear.

Tip: After you select what Pokémon you would like to track turn on your compass and slowly turn yourself 360 degrees. Once you are pointing in the right direction of the the Pokémon you are tracking, a small green box will pulsate out from the Nearby tab in the bottom right of your screen. Start moving in that direction and the pulses will get quicker as you get closer. You'll also notice that the number of tracks become less. Once the last track goes away, the Pokémon should appear close by!

Transfer Duplicate Pokémon For Candy

Each Pokémon caught will come with a bit Stardust and a bit of that Pokémon's candy. Both of these items are required to train your Pokémon, and candy is required to evolve Pokémon.

An easy way to obtain more candy is to transfer any duplicate Pokémon you catch in the wild. Transfer a Pokémon back in to the wild will give a bit of that Pokémon's candy. Therefore it's highly profitable to catch duplicate Pokémon in the wild.

Battery Saver

Pokémon Go includes an option in the settings to initiate a Battery Saver mode, but it doesn't really explain what that does - in fact, simply turning it on won't do much of anything.

To use Battery Saver, go to Settings and make sure Batter Saver is ticked. Once turned on, turn your phone upside down, and the screen will darken to display a faint Pokémon Go logo.

PokeStops / Pokéman

When interacting with PokeStops, if you leave the area, you won't be able to finish interacting with it. However, any Pokémon that are encountered and engaged will stay with you, letting you catch them at your leisure as long as they don't flee.

Recover Missed PokeBalls UPDATE: This trick does not work!

When trying to catch a Pokémon, chances are that sometimes you are going to miss when throwing a PokeBall at them. If the PokeBall misses and goes off screen, the PokeBall is lost for good. But if the PokeBall misses and is still in view, you can pick them back up by tapping on them (before they disappear) to recover them and avoid wasting PokeBalls!

Where to find different types of Pokéman

  • Fire types can be found at petrol pumps and during sunny days.
  • Water types can be found at lakes and other bodies of water and during rainy days.
  • Electric types can be found near electrical stations and during thunderstorms.
  • Ghost types can be found at night.
  • Grass, bug and normal types can be found in parks and other green landscapes.
  • Generally normal types can be found in urban areas.

Eggs

To hatch an egg, check your Pokémon list and swipe to the tab labeled "Eggs". Clicking on the egg will prompt you to put it in an incubator to begin the process of hatching said egg. Note that you only have one incubator to start with, but more can be bought from the Shop, or rewarded for reaching certain levels - although the shop and other versions will break after 3 uses - while your starting incubator has unlimited uses.

Once in the incubator, you'll be given an indication of how many more kilometers you must travel in order to hatch the egg. Potential Pokémon hatched by eggs depends on the distances. A 2 kilometers egg would hatch a more common Pokémon while a 10 kilometers egg would hatch a more rarer Pokémon. View the above graphic for potential Pokémon hatched by eggs.

Control Eevee's Evolution

In the cartoon; Pyro, Sparky and Rainer are known as the Eevee brothers and it seems Niantic has inserted a very fun reference to the trio in Pokémon GO. To control the evolution of Eevee, players just need to know which Eevee brother corresponds to each evolved form.

To get the evolution of your choice, rename Eevee. Open the menu and select the Eevee that you plan to evolve (probably the one with the highest CP). Click the edit button next to Eevee's name and change it to the appropriate nickname

Sparky = Jolteon
Rainer = Vaporeon
Pyro = Flareon

Be sure to match the name of the character to the desired Pokémon and capitalize the first letter.

After renaming Eevee and saving, close the game all the way and then restart it. This is an optional step, but because the servers are still unstable, it's recommended to restart the game to make sure that the name change stuck. A few Reddit users reported that the evolution trick didn't work, but they skipped this step and it's possible there was a server error.

Finally, evolve your Eevee!
