How To Enable Live Wallpapers In Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801

Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801 does not have Live Wallpapers enabled by default, even though the device has the capability to handle them.

It's easy to enable Live Wallpapers provided the device has been rooted. Follow the steps below:

• Root the Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801 with SuperOneClick
• Unrar sdcard.rar to the SD card
• Run the following commands in Terminal Emulator:
  
  

  su
  mount -o remount,rw,codepage=utf8,vfat,xattr,check=no /dev/stl5 /system
  cat /sdcard/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk > /system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
  cat /sdcard/libRS.so > /system/lib/libRS.so
  cat /sdcard/librs_jni.so > /system/lib/librs_jni.so
  reboot

How To Solve USB Connection Problem In Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801

After flashing the latest firmware of your Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801, you may find difficulty connecting to Kies / PC via USB.

There is a simple solution to this.

Open the dial pad and type *#7284#

This will open PhoneUtil. Here you need to change UART and USB, both to PDA mode. Even if they are already on PDA mode, change them to MODEM mode and back to PAD mode.

Prevent CHKDSK running on boot in Windows XP

After a while, when booting Windows XP, CHKDSK seems to run even when there doesn't seem to be any errors on your drive. To prevent CHKDSK from running, follow these simple steps:

Go to Start > Run and type CMD

At the prompt type FSUTIL DIRTY QUERY D:
You will most likely be told that the drive is dirty.

Next type CHKNTFS /X D:
The /X tells Windows to NOT check that particular drive on the next reboot.

Next manually reboot your computer and CHKDSK should not have run.

Once Windows has rebooted, again go to Start > Run and type CMD

At the prompt type CHKDSK /F /R D:
This will clean the dirty bit from your drive.

Finally, type FSUTIL DIRTY QUERY D: and Windows will confirm that the dirty bit is cleared from your drive.

That's it you're done!

Filter your emails

Gmail offers multiple variations of your email address all of which get delivered to your inbox. All you need to do is append a '+' (without the quotes) and any combination of words or numbers after your username.

For example: yourusername+forum@gmail.com or yourusername+spam@gmail

This could be used to your advantage not only to signup to a single service using multiple aliases but to be used to filter all emails coming into your inbox as the emails get delivered to the actual email that was used with the '+'.

Reduce annoying confirmation prompts

There are many times when we compose emails without the need for a subject or a message body. When we click 'Send' in Gmail, we get an annoying confirmation prompt. To prevent this from happening, just add EOM or (EOM) at the end of the the subject line (which is short for End Of Message) and email will be sent without the annoying confirmation prompt

Make a PC remote using your Bluetooth-enabled phone for free

If you're one of those lazy persons (like me) who hate having to go upto your computer to increase / decrease the volume, change the song playing etc. in Windows Media Player (or your favorite media player) or for that matter just control your PC desktop, then you need a PC remote to do just that.

If you have Bluetooth-enabled phone, you can easily make a PC remote for yourself. All you need is a USB Bluetooth dongle which should cost you about Rs.150/- or less.

Just plug in the USB Bluetooth dongle into any free USB port and a Bluetooth icon should appear in your taskbar. You can right-click this icon to Add / Remove Bluetooth devices, Send / Receive files and more.

Once you've added your phone, look for the Remote Control option in your phone and you're good to go.

Stupid Tip: What you could do when BSNL Broadband is down

My BSNL Broadband has recently been going down ever so often. It's been getting quite frustrating and any attempt to call the BSNL office doesn't really help, though the connection would be up after a little while.

One thing I noticed though was that after I made a call to the BSNL office (from my BSNL landline), the ADSL connection would be up again. At the time I just thought that the BSNL guys just fixed it.

Today morning, the ADSL connection was down again and I had no patience to call the BSNL office again; So what did I do?

I just picked up my BSNL landline for about 15 seconds and then voila! the ADSL connection was up again. Now I am yet to get a technical answer for what just happens, but for now I just think it's stupid. It works for me everytime and should be OK with me, atleast until the connection is fixed properly again.

Next time you face the same problem, try the above and let me know if it works.

Quick Google Tip

Did you know a Google username such as - myname@gmail.com - is the same as - my.name@gmail.com - as Google completely ignores dots (periods) in the username.

You can use this to your advantage to signup to a single service using multiple aliases.

For example:

You can have multiple Twitter accounts registered with the same Gmail account. You will only need to add a dot (period) in the emails while registering. Once with myname@gmail.com, the second with my.name@gmail.com and so on.

How to access all Google services with your Google Apps account

A Google Account is basically an unified sign-in system used by Google for most of Google's services including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Blogger, Picasa etc.

On the other hand, Google Apps is a professional/business solution of Google's services that consists of Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar etc. A Google Apps username is usually yourname@yourdomain.com which is personalized under your domain.

If you are a Google Apps user and you don't have a regular Google Account, then you wont be able to log in to most of the other Google services that are not a part of the Google Apps suite.

The solution is to make your Google Apps account a Google Account.

Go to the Google Account registration page - https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount

Enter your Google Apps email address while registering.

You will receive a verification email and/or a verification SMS. Once the verification is complete, your Google Apps email address will become a regular Google Account which can be user to access Google's services including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Blogger, Picasa etc. which was previously not available using your Google Apps account.

That's it. You're done!

Store ZIP / RAR archive in an image file

Here is a cool Windows XP hack that can allow us to store a ZIP / RAR archive inside a PNG / GIF / JPEG image. The image will open normally in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, Picasa Photo Viewer and can even be edited using an image editor. When you right-click the image, the context-menu will allow you to extract files from the archive.

This is achieved using the command line 'copy' command.

Create a new folder on your desktop and copy all the files you want to store into the archive into this folder.

Select all the files, right-click and choose 'Add to Archive File...'.

Enter the name of the archive you want, choose either ZIP / RAR as the archive format and click 'OK'. RAR is highly recommended.

Choose the image you want either a PNG / GIF / JPEG, and place it in the same folder.

Open the Command Prompt (Go to Start -> Run and type CMD), navigate to the directory and type the following:

copy /b YOURIMAGE.ext + YOURARCHIVE.ext OUTPUT.ext

For eg: copy /b wwwescape.jpg + blogger.zip wwwescape2.jpg

NOTES:
Use only PNG, GIF or JPEG images, do not use BMP as they take up too much space.

IZArc is the recommended compression software to use for all you compression needs.

The input image extension YOURIMAGE.ext must be the same as the output image extension OUTPUT.ext. Do not use a JPEG image and output to a PNG image or vice versa.

Reset .DAT file association in Windows XP

If you've accidentally associated .DAT files with Nero or Windows Media Player, you can easily reset the associations to defaults.

Go to Start > Run and type:

reg delete HKCR\.DAT /ve /f
