PlayStation Network sign in error 80710016

If you end up seeing a 80710016 error when trying to sign in to PlayStation Network, then your IP has most likely been banned by Sony. After the 2011 PlayStation Network outage, Sony beefed up their security which banned any suspicious IPs trying to access PlayStation Network. Unfortunately this also affected a lot of legitimate IPs and there seems to be no way to get the IPs unblocked. One reasons that legitimate IPs can get banned is due to simultaneous sign ins via the same IP to the PlayStation Network. For example, if one is connected to the PlayStation Network on their PS3 / PS4 and simultaneously try to sign in to the PlayStation Network on their website via a PC or smartphone or accessing the PS App on smartphones, then the PlayStation Network flags this off as suspicious and bans the IP. Therefore we MUST always remember NEVER to sign in to the PlayStation Network simultaneously! Solutions? If you have a dynamic IP address then you need not worry. Resetting your router should assign you a new IP from your ISP. If you have a static IP, you could wait a few days without accessing the PlayStation Network at all and see if if you're unblocked but there is high likelihood that you would get blocked again else you could call up your ISP and ask them to assign you a new static IP address. I hope this information helps a lot of people.

Flutter : Play and pause your media with a gesture

Flutter is a small app that uses your webcam to let you pause or start your music playback with a hand gesture. Simply install Flutter, open your music player and listen to some music - to pause playback, just hold up the palm of your hand toward your webcam for a second and the music will stop. To continue listening, simply us the same gesture again, and Flutter will resume playback. A similar gesture is supported for skipping to the next or previous track.

Flutter works best if you gesture within a 1-6 feet distance from your webcam. If you get too close or are too far away it may have difficulties recognizing the gesture. Flutter runs in the system tray and will automatically activate your webcam when you launch your media player.

Currently supports Windows Media Player, iTunes, Spotify and WinAmp.

Quick Gmail Tips

Previously I had posted a quick Google Tip which could be used to your advantage to signup to a single service using multiple aliases.

Read more here.

Here is another similar tip for Gmail.

Filter your emails

Gmail offers multiple variations of your email address all of which get delivered to your inbox. All you need to do is append a '+' (without the quotes) and any combination of words or numbers after your username.

For example: yourusername+forum@gmail.com or yourusername+spam@gmail

This could be used to your advantage not only to signup to a single service using multiple aliases but to be used to filter all emails coming into your inbox as the emails get delivered to the actual email that was used with the '+'.

Reduce annoying confirmation prompts

There are many times when we compose emails without the need for a subject or a message body. When we click 'Send' in Gmail, we get an annoying confirmation prompt. To prevent this from happening, just add EOM or (EOM) at the end of the the subject line (which is short for End Of Message) and email will be sent without the annoying confirmation prompt

Have fun!

How to create and deploy your own QR Codes

You've seen them on newspapers, business cards, websites etc. QR Codes are appearing everywhere. So what exactly is a QR Code?

A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.

QR codes are still a relatively new concept, but they have a lot of potential in the ever changing mobile world. Some uses include added nutritional information on groceries, the ability to comparison shop for textbooks, access to free giveaways and bonuses at major music festivals.

You can easily create your own for free. Visit http://qrcode.kaywa.com and you can choose to create you're own QR Code from 4 different content types: URL, Text, Phone Number and SMS.

Once you have created you QR Code, you can include it on your website / blog, print it and use it on business cards etc.

To read QR Codes, you need a QR Code Reader. Visit http://reader.kaywa.com and download the Kaywa Reader application for your preferred phone. Once you have download the application to your phone, simply start the application and point your phone camera to any QR Code and let the application do the rest.

I have created a QR Code which points to the URL of this blog. Try it.

Go ahead and have fun!

Stupid Tip: What you could do when BSNL Broadband is down

My BSNL Broadband has recently been going down ever so often. It's been getting quite frustrating and any attempt to call the BSNL office doesn't really help, though the connection would be up after a little while.

One thing I noticed though was that after I made a call to the BSNL office (from my BSNL landline), the ADSL connection would be up again. At the time I just thought that the BSNL guys just fixed it.

BSNL DataOne

Today morning, the ADSL connection was down again and I had no patience to call the BSNL office again; So what did I do?

I just picked up my BSNL landline for about 15 seconds and then voila! the ADSL connection was up again. Now I am yet to get a technical answer for what just happens, but for now I just think it's stupid. It works for me everytime and should be OK with me, atleast until the connection is fixed properly again.

Next time you face the same problem, try the above and let me know if it works.

UPDATE:
As promised, I found the technical answer for the problem here.

How to get your Facebook username

Many Facebook users don't know this, but Facebook allows you to personalize your Facebook profile URL with your own username. So instead of having

    www.facebook.com/profile.phd?id=123456789

    you can now have

    www.facebook.com/my.desired.name

To get your own Facebook username go to www.facebook.com/username and follow the instructions.

Be careful what you choose! Once you pick a username, it is not editable or transferable to another account, so pick well! Make sure it is spelled correctly, and that it is a name you won't have second thoughts about later.

Note: Your Facebook username also doubles up as your login, though you can still use your email address to login to Facebook.
